"The Pie" by: Gary Soto
This narrative writing, "The Pie" from A Summer Life by Gary Soto is a story of a six year old boy stealing pie and realizing how much guilt that caused him to feel. The very first paragraph of the story talks about how it was a normal day and walking into the German market. He was looking at the pies and trying to deside which one to get. Later he ends up stealing the pies and then feeling really guilty about it. Soto also wrote an allusion to Adam and Eve which was used as a comparison of them to him. He mentions that he knew an apple got Eve in trouble. This was relevant to him because he had stolen an apple pie and he had committed a sin which he had been told not to do. This guilt is obviously shown throughout the writing in many ways. So to also showed many signs of personification. For example in paragraph 6 he uses an example of personification in "the pie tin glared at me and rolled away". Overall "The Pie" was a very great piece of writing and would love to read it again.
