Dear Katerina,
Shirley Jackson, the writer of "The Lottery" was born on December 14, 1916 in San Fransisco. She went to collage at the university of Rochester that's when she became the editor of her campus humor magazine and she graduated in 1940. After she finished collage she went to New York City where she started to write professionally. She published her novel, "The Road Through The Wall" in 1948. Also that same year she published her short story called "The Lottery", it became one of the most famous short stories of its era. Later in life she married Edgar Hyman, and gave her four children. She later died in August 8, 1965 in her sleep due to heart failure. Two of her children later became authors for two of Jackson's works, "Let Me Tell You: New Stories, Essays, and Other Writings." The stories were released in August of 2015 in memory of her 50th anniversary.
Many interesting things happened in 1948 such as the first Porsche being invented, northwest airlines flight 422 crashes and kills 30, and Babe Ruth dying. The first Porsche being invented was a big deal. It was a lightweight rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2 door sports car. innovations continued during the years it was made, helping its motorsports success and popularity. Also in 1948 on March 12, 1948, Northwest Airlines Flight 4422 crashed into Mount Sanford, Alaska, and it had 6 crewmebers pand 24 passengers. They don't know the reason why it crashed, but sadly all of them died. Lastly Babe Ruth died on August 16, 1948, Babe Ruth, died of cancer at the age of 53.

In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson it takes place in a small village on June 27th. It tells the story of a village full of towns people, a group of superstitious people who are trying to avoid getting picked for the lottery. They must fight against death, the way to take a persons life in order to achieve this goal. First the villagers gather all together I between the post office and the bank. Then the kids started collecting stones as they begin to start drawing the families names. After that the family who ended up getting picked was the Hutchison Family. Next the family had to pick again to see who was going to get chosen. Finally the person who got the slip of paper with a black dot was Tessie. As the story ends everyone was ready to pick up the rocks and throw them at Tessie so in the end she dies.
